Hello there beautiful ladies! Lakme recently came out with a bunch of new products and I couldn’t resist not getting my hands on any of them. I ended up buying the Lakme 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Powder Foundation, since it looked like something I could use on a daily basis. So if you’ve not already read a dozen reviews of this product, here comes mine!
Price: Rs.600 for 9gm
Packaging: I’m so impressed with the rose gold packaging of this powder foundation! It looks really classy and the lid is reflective as well. It has a mirror on the inside and a separate compartment for the sponge applicator. I’m not sure if the product will break if you drop it, but it’s always better to be careful right?
Shade Range: There are six shades available in this powder foundation. Lakme has tried to cater to the deeper shades as well, but it’s really difficult to select a shade online. The names do not represent anything specific as such. I got the shade Silky Golden and fortunately, it suits me perfectly!
Texture: The texture of this product is smooth and soft. It glides on to the skin easily and blends effortlessly.
Application: I’ve used this with both the sponge applicator provided and with a dense brush, it works well both ways! If you do not have a brush lying around, you can certainly go ahead with the sponge.
Staying Power: The powder foundation lasts for about 4-5 hours and not 8 hours, as Lakme claims.
Coverage: The coverage is sheer to medium and not really buildable. It’ll lightly cover up any acne marks or blemishes.
Fragrance: The product has a very mild fragrance on the pan but nothing transfers onto the skin and that’s certainly a win.
The Lakme powder foundation is perfect for everyday wear. It is very lightweight and doesn’t look cakey or anything. It gives decent coverage and mattifies the skin for about 4 hours or so. After that, my t-zone starts to look shiny (yes, my dry skin is turning into combination skin, thanks to the crazy Mumbai weather). It works great as a setting powder as well; you can top up your foundation with this for a matte finish.
The product makes my under eye area quite dry and hence I would recommend dry skinned girls to moisturize well before using this product. I also feel that the product works better when used over a moisturizer or sunscreen, it just adheres better to the skin that way.
Let us now sum up the pros and cons.
- Doesn’t feel heavy
- Decent coverage
- Blends easily
- Mild fragrance
- Can be used as a setting powder
- Beautiful packaging
- Easily available
- Decent staying power
- Doesn’t live up to the 8 hours claim
- No SPF
- On the pricier side
If you’re looking for something mattifying and lightweight for your everyday makeup routine, you can give this a go.
