Nykaa SKINgenius Compact Review

Hola! So summer has been in all its glory the past few days and I believe this is the time all of us reach out for our compacts the most. Recently when Nykaa launched their SKINgenius Skin Perfecting & Hydrating Compact, I went ahead and bought it immediately. Read on to find out whether the product is worth giving a shot or not!

Price: Rs.525 for 9gms

Packaging: The compact has the typical Nykaa packaging, with the pink outer cardboard box and the compact itself is matte black. The case has two compartments, wherein the first one has the mirror as well as the compact and the second one has the sponge applicator. The disappointing part is, there is no groove or space for you to lift up the compact pan and get the applicator. It is quite a struggle and gets irritating at times.

Shade Range: The compact has been launched with just 3 shades, which is a huge let down. Hope they launch a few more shades soon. I picked up the shade Rose Beige 02, which thankfully matched my skin tone perfectly.

Texture: The compact has a velvety texture, which is quite different when you compare it to the others compacts available in the market. The powder is very softly milled as well. It leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft to touch.

Staying Power: The compact lasts for a good 4-5 hours, after which you need to touch up.

Coverage: It provides sheer coverage, which isn’t really that buildable. I so wish it was!

Fragrance: Nykaa claims the product to be fragrance free, but if you smell it closely it does have a scent, which I’m not a huge fan of. The fragrance doesn’t last and hence can be easily ignored!

My Experience:

The Nykaa SKINgenius compact is mattifying yet not drying. It doesn’t accentuate my dry patches nor does it cover them up. I wouldn’t say it is hydrating to the extent that you can skip your moisturizer, but it definitely won’t dry out your skin. I’m sure all oily skinned girls would like this product, since it mattifies your skin instantly and doesn’t feel cakey. Its mattifying quality is something that makes it apt for the Mumbai humidity!

The part I love the most about this compact is that it looks extremely natural! It blends like a dream and there’s no cakiness or patchiness whatsoever. It doesn’t look like you’ve anything on your skin, which makes it perfect for daily use.

The sponge applicator isn’t that great and could have been better. I’ve been using this compact for over 2 weeks now and haven’t noticed any breakouts! The fact that it doesn’t contain any SPF, is very disappointing. you cannot just wear this and head out in the summers, you need a sunscreen for sure!

Let us now sum up the pros and cons:

  1. Gives a natural finish
  2. Mattifying
  3. Not drying
  4. No patchiness or cakiness
  5. Does not crease
  6. Blends easily
  7. Reasonably priced
  8. Suitable for dry and sensitive skin
  9. Non-comedogenic and paraben free

  1. Sheer coverage
  2. Packaging could’ve been better
  3. Only 3 shades available
  4. Sponge applicator needs improvement
  5. No SPF

Hand Swatch

Conclusion: If you’ve clear skin and want a compact for daily wear or need something to mattify your skin, I’m sure you’re going to love this! But since it provides sheer coverage, I would not recommend it for parties or special occasions.
